The eleventh edition of LPM has just ended and while we prepare for the next event in Mexico City, it is good to draw a balance of the Rome edition.

It was a year long and intense preparation, during which the efforts of the entire team were focused on creating an edition that would overcome the previous ones, both in terms of participants and quality of the proposed works. A proactive management of foreign partnerships enabled LPM to co-organize 21 events including national and international festivals, conferences and preview, from November 2011 to May 2012.

The promotional campaign contributed to make LPM Rome one of the most expected events of the year for the entire community of live video performers.

Despite the sudden change of location, which occurred just weeks before the event, the artists experience in Rome was not disrupted, instead they participated with greater enthusiasm and broader participation than ever. We registered the highest amount of participating performers since LPM began in 2004: over 500 artists from 42 countries.

A considerable effort was made to turn LPM in a unmissable appointment in the agenda of those worldwide organizations involved in dissemination of the live video culture: the most important organizations found in LPM the chance to present their projects and describe their own local communities to an international audience.

Showcases from VisualBerlin (GE), VJ UnionAustralia, VjCentrum (HU), VJMX (MX), Node Forum for Digital Arts (GE), AVPlayground (AU) and the third official meeting of AVNode, newborn international network of which LPM is co-founder, are just some of those moments dedicated to the dissemination and sharing of international culture of live video.

There is also much to report in terms of artistic productions and performers who have excelled in quality and originality: among the installations is worth mentioning micro.D (Hungary), over [-] lab (Italy), VLAB4D (Spain) and SPACE + – (Germany).

As for the audiovisual performances we were glad to enjoy the performances of Peter Kirn (US/GER), Outpt&Paris (US), EZTUL (MX), Dr. Kontra (MX), VJEmiko (Poland), Mowgli (UK), MP19 (ES/GER) and the long-awaited live cinema pioneers LightSurgeon (UK). Among our Italian rooster the highlights were the MuthelabCrew, KowTow, Omino69 and Francesca Fini.

Thanks to collaboration with our long-standing technical partners Codanova, MadMapper, Modul8, Millumin, Resolume and Vixid we awarded fantastic prizes to the winners of the Vj Torna live categories, that has registered an incredible amount of participants in this Rome edition.

And the winners are:

Champion category: VJ Jacobsen (Italy)

VJ Battle category: Best Before (Greece)

Best Live Mapper category: Vinicius + Edmosh Vjzaria Luz (Brazil)

During the night time LPM turned into a real party, with special guests including Tama Sumo and nd_baumecker from Berlin Panoramabar, along with italian and international Djs such as Unzip, Mandy Mozart, Andypop and Lady Maru.

Thanks to the contribution of the Embassy of Mexico in Italy, LPM hosted the artist Sandra Real aka VJ Chana, chosen as a leading figure in spreading the culture of live video in Mexico.

Part of the Meeting took place at Teatro Valle, a historic landmark in Rome which hosted the video installation ofMAPI (IT) and DeVo (Ge), the av performances of VJFader + Mandy Mozart (usa), Emiko (Poland), Francesca Fini (it), DR.Kontra (MX), Eztul (Mx), the vj set of Omino69 (IT) and the dj set of Alexei De Bronhe (BY).

ORGANIZATION

The Submission Office has managed both the entire submissions process starting from January 28th to March 26th, the period related to the opening of the call for artists, both the assistance included the accomodations and the technical requirement of every artists, with the stage manager involved in the selection of the works submitted, since the days of the Meeting. This year the requests of participation were almost 750.

The tasks of the Communication Office started in October 2011, with the aim to renew the old partnership and most of all to enlarge the network of festivals, industries, media, institutions interested on being part of the project. Since today LPM has more than 150 organizations that have embraced the project and support the event. An important part of the work has also allowed us to structure and organize the promotion of more than 20 events in which LPM was involved, from October 2011 until a few days before the meeting in Rome.

During the four days of the meeting the LPM Desk welcome the artists giving informations and support about performances, programs, coordination with curators and stage manager, and found smart solution for the mobility in Rome; besides it also managed the pass entrance and supported the press office, dealing with the welcome and coordination of the journalists.

Promotion

Promotion activities have run from November 2011 until the end of the event and the days later, including the management of the reporting activities. With the increasing number of foreign followers on our social networks we have developed a constant promotional campaign, highlighting both the artistic cast, both the massive numbers of workshop, showcases in the program, both on calling up for VjTorna submission.

Thanks to strong partnership with the national and international media, we were able to take advantage of these resources, as well as the hand to hand distribution of flyers and promotional material in the mail places of interest and aggregation, including through posting flyers and posters both in Rome and during the promotional events in Europe.

The most relevant actions made to promote the Meeting were for sure the over 21 previews made from November 2011 to May 2012: from the preview events in collaboration with our partners to workshops and performances presented by LPM at national and international festivals.

The press office have been mostly focused towards the involvement of specialized and non-specialized editorials, from the local cultural pages on the most relevant newspaper, to magazines and internet websites dealing with arts, new media, technologies, street culture and lifestyle, in order to get the best visibility for the meeting and reach a large and various target audience.

We also received a lot of positive feedback online and offline during the 4 days of LPM, with mention of the event on most popular and influent newspaper and online magazine, websites and social network, and after the event, with a massive photo and video report made from the artists and from the press attending.
