LPM – Live Performers Meeting
The LPM project was born in 2004 with the aim to answer to the need for creating a space-temporal referential field where to meet, know each other and share vjing related experiences. Nowadays LPM is an international meeting dedicated to artists, professionals and passionates of veejaying, visual and live video performance.
LPM 2008 closed the doors of its fifth edition with a smash hit, expanding locations and contents. An historical location, the Macello IV del Mattatoio di Testaccio in Rome, hosted the four days of the Meeting, with a broad program of A/V performances, workshops and showcases of projects, softwares and cutting-edge products. Four days, each one focused on different basic themes: Digital Freedoms, 8 Bit/Eletrropop, Breakbeat/Techno/Electro, Visual Genders.
For the Digital Freedoms session, dedicated to digital freedoms: LA DEGRADARTE, “When, how and why from a copyright law born an artistic and cultural provocation.” Among the Vj protagonists: Ser (Spain/Germany), vj who corporated with important artists such as Ellen Allien, Dj Hell, Rush, Fangoria, Moby, with the performance Input data, a performance that show the power of phisical computing; Dr Mo. (UK), photographer and videoclips director, with Space travel: an endless series of pictures took in all the cities he visited in the world.Among the workshops: freej o.s. Videomixer.
For the Elettropop/8 bit session: LeCollagiste (France) with VeeJinima, visual inspired by a imaginary videogame; Hiroshima Denryoku (Japan), Japanese Techno Collective; Synesthete (Turkey) with Signal to Noise, the performance analyzes the energy spread by the plants; the Vj duet Visuallab from Bologna, with Is you: tribute to the french artist Sophie Calle, awarded at the past edition of the Biennale di Venezia. Besides: TheSAD (Milan), Loco y Libra (Barcellona/London) KlipMan (Rome).
For the BreakBeat/Elettro/Tekno session: Toby Spark, one of the most important international VJ and founder of AVIT, historical english festival became now a network of Festivals and international events focused on live video; Homemade, french project which aim to face visual art using interdisciplinary approaches, with Just Alice 02, performance inspired by the hallucinatory, fairy-tale world of Alice in the Wonderland. Besides: VJ Tintin (Marseille), Brandy Alexander Project (London).
Visual Genders is the basic theme of the last day, with visuals dedicated to the Queer world and to the fleeting border among sexual genders. Among the main characters: Polivisioni, Vj collective from Cagliari (IT) with Ero/sono; Strap on Dildos, french collective of visual artists, musicians, performers, dancers and sex workers. And more, the launch of the contest organized by AMORE, giving the chance to perform at AMORE 09, one of the most important electronic event worldwide. Among the stars of the Queer Rome scene: Infidel, resident vj for PHAG OFF; Paco Nazim, vj for AMIGDALA and ROBOTERIE; RedNikita plus Vivel. Among the Djs: Hugo Sanchez and Warbear (resident vj for PHAG OFF). In the end the prize-giving ofDEGRADARTE contest: the vjs has improvised a three minutes video inspired by the movie Zatoichi by Takeshi Kitano using exclusively degraded images. Up for grabs one CODANOVA midi controller – cutting-edge technology product.

The indoor space of the event is located at the Macello IV of Mattatoio di Testaccio and it has the use of free internet connection , bar, 3 stages, Learning area and area Expoinfobuy.
INDOOR: Stage 1 and Stage 2
The stages 1 and 2 are twins and are structured with two stages equipped with sound system and 5 mega-screen. Here audiovisual performances and presentations follow one each other from 15:30 to 4:00, assuring a continuous line-up without any interruption.
INDOOR: Stage 3
The Stage 3 is dedicated to the vjs. From 01.00 to 04.00 they interpretate the sound of the djs and the audiovisual performances. It is set up with a wide video consolle from where 8 beamers projecting on 8 screens are controlled.
The learing area is the space dedicated to workshop sessions.
ExpoInfoBuy is the space dedicated to commercial stands and sponsors promoting their products through exhibitions or showcases charachterised by presentations and shows.
The open air space of the event is located outside the Macello IV of Mattatoio di Testaccio; it is set up with free internet connection, bar, kitchen and tables to guarantee a comfortable dinner.

The administrative office, supported by a group of volunteers, has deal with the informations and relationshipswith artists starting two months before the event. Almost 300 submissions have been collected, giving useful informations about the tipology of the event and the schedule.
During the four days of the meeting the LPM desk welcome the artists explaining informations about their performances and accomodations in Rome; besides it also managed the pass entrance and supported the press office, dealing with the welcome and coordination of the invited journalists.
Tha taks of the Press office started three months before the event, managing the relationships with the numerousmedia partners, collecting their requests and creating ad hoc proposals. This resulted in some prestigious collaborations, such as ALL MUSIC (publishing group “L’Espresso “, also present during the event with excellent online coverage of the monthly “XL Repubblica”), Zero Edizioni, Radio Lifegate.
To note the good online and offline response obtained during the four days of LPM, with reports of the event on the most important newspapers and web portals.

Promotion activities have started from the identification of target audience, identifying the essential point in the vjing forums and web sites. We’ve used newsletters and mailing lists, relying mainly on the principle of networking. We’ve promoted the meeting by paper matirals, distributed in the aggregation places and in all the usually frequented areas.
