toby*spark is an audio-visual producer and performer, the alter-ego of Toby Harris. Graduated as a mechanical engineer, deeply interested in investigation of augmented reality, interactive design and responsive and immersive digital environments, he started to play as a vj due to thje exploration of the creative possibilities of technology and user-experience design.

Narrative and meaning became increasingly important in his live video and he found his best way in fusing cinema, vj tools and performance. Exploring the potential of user generated content, interactive environments, mass participation, custom code and more, his work is an experiment to invert cinema, replacing the director’s vision with an emergent property of the audience. He also is one of the founders of a peer-to-peer arts organisation to promote vjing that held festivals worldwide, The Avit Network. In skills and knowledge, he is currently focused on software development as the key to realising his artistic desires as well as facilitating stimulating commercial work.

Recent projects have seen *spark as a vj at motor shows around the world, harnessing user generated content to shift the focus from cars those buying them, and coding up a text-messaging, graffiti-writing, story telling installation to see what happens when people interact or think in unexpected ways.
