"Cities, like dreams, are made of desires and fears." - Italo Calvino.
The project 'Who lives in the city?' Developed by PlaySomething takes shape
Calvin's opera 'The Invisible Cities' published in 1972. The protagonist,
Marco Polo at the court of Kublai Khan, Mongol ruler, King tells the
descriptions of the cities visited during his travels within its
immense empire. Calvin actually creates fifty-five describing the city
details and their features, bringing the reader into a fantasy world,
where each site has a name of a woman of classical origin. The work of Calvin
is often cited in numerous studies, documentaries, books and his interviews
for timely and full of ideas that can inform the debate on
contemporary city. A city that is emptied of its identity is a city that
loses its soul and is left as a ruin in time. Who lives in
city? Is the question that arises now that the observer is in front of the image
washed out of our metropolis.
'Who lives in the city?' Is a project that combines music and video projection
(Projecting on four towers that symbolize the contemporary city) with
the intent to represent some imaginary places taken from the work of Calvin
through a live performance that makes every event unique.
Play Something was founded in 2009 by three artists (sound & VJing).
