South Africa Cape Town

South Africa, Cape Town
Born in the farming village of Citrusdal, Kamashe’ first dabbled with bass in the literal sense – playing bass guitar in high school. But it wasn’t until a couple of serendipitous connections introduced him to drum and bass in London in 2006 that he really started delving into the subterranean sound.

He was captivated by the energy of DnB and fascinated by the magic of creating one track from two so it wasn’t long before Kamashe’ had fully submerged himself in the world of mixing. By the time he returned home, two years later, he was ready to make his debut – at Homegrown, no less – and with the support of Niskerone and Counterstrike, he continued impressing local crowds, as well as holding a downstairs residency at Mercury Mondays for the next year.

While growing in gigging experience on home turf, Kamashe’ was also slipping into production while studying Sound Engineering at SAE. A diploma wasn’t enough though, so he set off to further master both his production and DJing skills in Perth, Australia. More levelling up got him invited to support Rockwell and Marcus Intalex on their visit to Perth and his return to South Africa saw him alongside Ruckspin.

Back home, Kamashe’ is focussing on his production but his undying passion for mixing keeps him returning to the decks at clubs and festivals through-out the country; from headlining Pressure and Dansville, to appearing at Twighlight in Jo’burg and Earthdance, Cape Town in 2013. His eclectic selection of tunes can keep any pair of subgenre-d feet stepping and his quick as lightening mixing means there’s never a drawn-out moment.

With dedication to his art and enthusiasm for the local DnB scene, Kamashe’ hopes to soon join the ranks of other well-established South African DnB Djs and producers who are currently making waves worldwide.
