In recent years video technology has become increasingly widely used. The speed with which moving images are created and then shared across the web of the internet has taken an almost omnipotent position within our society and shared culture. The massive use of videophones, and the large diffusion of screen in urban spaces contribute to affirm the video-ubiquity and to change definitely the classical viewing condition of cinema and television. We no longer watch films or TV; we watch databases. Instead of well-defined programmes, we search one list after another. Inside these databases videos do not exist alone, but always in a space of interconnection, where our watching is driven by a video to another through roads that are only partially selected by us. What it means "look at databases" ? How do the video databases work? which are the algorithms behind them ? how is the spread of these databases changing the visual culture?

These preliminary questions should be used to define a second point of reflection concerning the changes that occur in the video aesthetics. How are the form and the content of online videos changing the way we make videos? What happens to the old fiction (literature, cinema and tv) with the diffusion of the new videos technologies? what role can “performing live video” play in relation to what we call the "vernacular video" that is no more an exclusive prerogative of professional artists?
