WHAT MATAR AL GATO IS?

Matar al Gato is a multimedia art & sound art happening, whose outcome is a digital art work by itself.

An ephemeral happening whose only preservation is a digital file (or a series of digital files). This files preserve the performance and, on the other hand, the various platforms which take part of it.

Both the performance and the digital files represent for us the work of art.

Matar al Gato are Sol Rezza (sound artist & sound designer) and Daniel Ivan (multimedia artist).

WHAT IS MATAR AL GATO'S WORK?

Matar al Gato is a happenning; something that happens and that becomes a work of art. This work of art requires several technological platforms and several artistic disciplines, so we call it Multimedia Art.

Into our happenings we try to play with all the technological possibilities available for us: sound, still or moving images, digital experimentation through computers, internet and experimental networking, etc. Sound‐art and video‐art pieces (previously produced, or captured and edited alive). Theatrical action. Interactions between technology and theater. Interactions between people and technology. Interactions between technology, communication and art.

Our works are not intended only as a research on technology and art; they try to think about philosophical ideas - as universal ideas and questions- and use the technological platforms to do so.

Our happenings are onetime events; they are not “repeatable pieces” as in music, and it is not our intention to play them over and over again. That’s why the REGISTRY of our happenings constitutes an integral part of the piece: the digital files preserving our work become the art work itself. Each one of our pieces has a site on the internet, in which they can be played, downloaded and - in some cases- even reconstructed or reinterpreted by their audience.

Our happenings may occur live (on a physical space, as an auditorium, museum or radio booth) or virtualy (via a streaming generated from the artists’ studio or from anywhere else).

The pieces resulting from our happenings (audio, video, multimedia, etc.) may be exhibited alone or as part of group exhibitions.
