Unstable Society is an audiovisual live performance constructed with Public Domain archives footage and a live played soundtrack. The main topic is about how we repeat the mistakes of the past, while the credibility of the documental archive footage is questioned as history generator.

In Unstable Society, we use USA film footage from the 30’s economic crisis to the 50‘s golden age, to construct a reality that was, and it is still possible in today´s life.

The present worldwide credit crunch and the passing of the years, legitimize us to take this footage and rewrite it as a realistic film.

That selected footage comes from documentary films, produced by the government and private corporations in order to demonstrate the advantages of the American capitalism way of life.

Nowadays all of them can be founded under Public Domain license.

The live played soundtrack changes the meaning of these images and place them into a new context, on the thin line between reality and fiction.

Unstable Society talks about the city, the organization of a whole nation, the economy and the role of individuals in society. But, it’s also about the credibility of archival films, and how film editing and sound can change the meaning of historical images, which we believed immovable. We talk about the power of the moving image to shape social imaginary and to construct what we know today as History.
