Domestic Violence is an audio-visual project by UK based artists - Ewelina Aleksandrowicz and Andrzej Wojtas. Granular outbursts of sound, synthetic paroxysm and DIY approach shape mentally aggressive performances arranged through a specifically conceived audio interface. The interface was built by the artists in order to control and manipulate the sound and visuals simultaneously, it allows the production of sound as a consequence of physical gesture by using Force Sensitive Resistors. Different intensities of pressure and touch result in augmented or reduced inflection of glitch and noise and distorted aesthetic crashes of the video projection. Artists are using gun object [a part of interface] which consists of a camera, microphone and accelerometer to control the sound synthesis. Interface is connected to a laptop with Max/Msp software through Arduino platform. Influenced by post-apocalyptic landscape, androgynous forms, art of transgression, glitch aesthetics and destructive punk attitude, Domestic Violence turns emotional aggregates into therapeutic images. During its live shows, the audience is invested and tortured by deeply sensual waves of concrete, material sound, pixelated raw images of flesh and biomorph surrealistic creatures. With its harsh expressive wildness and a dark, brutalist touch, Domestic Violence leads the viewer through an imaginative digital pilgrimage, exploring human and inhuman primitive roots by reactivating dismissed areas of our psyche.
Destruction - catharsis - model for interactive media. Artists are investigating issues of materiality / trying to destroy the entity, rebuild it and transform it [either in relation to body or landscape] identity / physicality / deformation of the body structure and diversity of its forms as well as destructive emotions and feelings. The video content is often centered around issues related to gender and sexuality. Domestic Violence video performance is expressing through representations of bodily fluids / deconstruction of the image and body / texture disorders, which lead to transformation and transmutation of shapes and forms. The sound consists mainly field recordings / bodily sounds like : masturbation / voice / breath / whisper produced by artists. The video content is also performed and produced by artists. Domestic Violence live visuals are cinematic journey into deep realities, where the physicality of the sound stream and engaging video content guides the viewer through intense experience. Artists are constantly trying to challenge the viewer with their harsh visual poetry and transgressive character of the images.
