As co-author of the first book on Quartz Composer for Vj performance and creator of the most widely viewed online video tutorial series "The Irishman's guide to Quartz Composer" Shakinda is uniquely qualified to demonstrate how vjs can exploit this powerful graphic programing tool.

With the introduction of Quartz composer in Mac OS X Tiger, Apple delivered and very powerful and fun graphical programming environment.
Despite the massive potential for realtime audio reactive visualization, Cocoa application development and screensaver creation, this tool remains woefully under-publicized.

There are tantalizing mentions of it in a variety of books and online sources, but nothing that takes potential users and turns them into Quartz Composer enthusiasts.
The only in-depth discussion of Quartz Composer (often referred to as 'QC') is via Apple's online documentation and QC Developer Discussion group.
These sources are dry and mostly over the heads of the casual user. Those who are looking to get their feet wet are quickly overwhelmed.

These workshops will launch the user directly into building and manipulating compositions.
Each concept is introduced as part of a hands-on project, steadily building the user's knowledge base, and demonstrating/encouraging experimentation every step of the way. The projects start out very simple, and the first focus is always on beautiful visual feedback, a method which immediately resonates with users, and encourages them to explore the systems they are creating.

Topics covered will include:

• Playing and filtering movies

• Working with 3d objects and particle systems

• Audio reactivity

• VDMX integration

• connecting midi

• Wii motes and other controllers

• Lighting

• Modeling complex environments

Please bring a mac with quartz installed ( it comes free on your dev disks video tutorial here: Installing and setting up Quartz Composer of Leopard Mac OSX 10.5 [])
