Okaro is the artistic project of Francisco Javier Caro Romero, a multidisciplinary artist, DJ, producer and live performer based in Málaga, Spain.
With a background spanning more than a decade in photography and visual arts, his approach to electronic music is deeply connected to image, atmosphere and narrative. Rather than treating sound and visuals as separate disciplines, Okaro explores them as different ways of building the same thing: environments capable of carrying emotion, tension and movement.
His musical language moves through the deeper and more hypnotic edges of electronic music, deep and dub-inflected techno, house, ambient and intricate rhythmic structures, balancing organic percussion and groove with dense atmospheres, spatial textures and moments of melodic openness. His work is less concerned with remaining inside a specific genre than with creating a sense of journey.
This approach extends from his productions and DJ sets to his live and audiovisual work. Projects such as Chryso, developed as an immersive AV performance, explore music as a narrative medium, moving through darkness, conflict and transformation towards acceptance and light. Alongside his solo work, Okaro continues to develop site-specific and audiovisual experiments that connect electronic composition with landscape, space and moving image.
He is also the founder of BUG, a platform and label conceived as an extension of this artistic universe: a space for music, experimentation and community. His activity as a DJ and promoter has connected him with Málaga’s electronic scene through projects such as Tralla and residencies and appearances at venues including True Club, Studio Club and Paris 15, alongside performances in Madrid and other contexts.
Across releases, club music, live performance, photography and audiovisual work, the common thread remains the same: an interest in emotional electronic music and in the spaces that exist between intensity and introspection, the physical and the atmospheric, darkness and light.
For Okaro, electronic music is not simply something to be heard or danced to. It is a space to inhabit.
