Volcanism
Volcanism is a duo formed in 2022 by electronic musicians Paolo Gatti and Simone Sbarzella.
Volcanism’s show consists of a multimedia performance in which music based essentially on sampling and unusual rhythms, interacts with surreal video atmospheres. The result is a multi-layered texture where the counterpoint of elements offers the audience an imaginative scenario; the two musicians improvise over the live-set tracks, creating ever-changing audio-video interactions. Volcanism’s music includes pieces ranging from ambient and downtempo to electro, techno, and next wave.
In 2023 the duo performed in Malta and Rome, while in 2024 they released the single “Three Seasons,” included in a vinyl compilation published by Taba Café. In 2024 and 2025 they performed in various concerts in Rome; also in 2025, the project was included in a festival curated by Loosen Art.
So far, Volcanism project presents itself as a multiform audio-visual architecture, with shows and performances adaptable to different environments (from dance floors to theatres and concert halls). The musicians have repeatedly redefined the performance through multimedia re-works techniques, shaping the audio visual materials in different styles.
